DOC is the most popular text file format. Its full name is Microsoft Word Document, but the short version is more convenient and practical. This format was created for working with text documents in a paid text editor Microsoft Word office suite Microsoft Office. A file of this format contains not only a text document itself, but also a complete set of data on its formatting - paragraphs, indents, fonts, lists, text alignment, and much more. In addition, the DOC format makes it possible to include tables, charts, images in a text document. Working with such files is also available in many free programs or online services.
DOCX is a more modern version of the DOC text file format, which appeared in Microsoft Word 2007 from Microsoft. It takes its name from the full name of Microsoft Word Open XML Document. As in the previous version, DOCX format files contain not only textual information, but also tables, charts, images, and you can perform any formatting actions with the text. The main difference is that a DOCX text document is not a binary file, but a set of separate files (XML files, docProps, Word and _rels folders) in a ZIP compression package. This gives maximum file security without damaging or losing data.
