DDS is a graphic format, bitmap image. DDS stands for Abbreviation for the DirectDraw Surface. This format, developed by Microsoft, is usually used to store textures for 3D environments (for example, in computer games or 3D models, including new-generation game consoles). The format is designed specifically for use in the Microsoft DirectX environment, however, in OpenGL, the use of DDS files is also possible. It was developed by Adobe Systems for use by US federal authorities as a tool for storing working documents. This is a universal cross-platform format, which is now standard for electronic documents. It serves to convert text files (including photographs or other images) into electronic documents without any loss. To read PDF files you need special programs - Adobe (Acrobat) Reader, PDF-Viewer and others.
