Overlap the end of one recording with the start of another for a smoother transition.

Before you start

Prepare the audio sources in the order you want. A crossfade reduces the combined duration because the recordings overlap.

Try with a demonstration file — audio.mp3

Try with a demonstration file — audio-two.wav

These small files were created for this guide and contain no personal data.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose the audio sources required by the mixer.
  2. Check their order and listen to the end of the first and start of the next source.
  3. Set an available crossfade duration that fits both recordings and review output options.
  4. Review any displayed charge and start rendering the mix.
  5. Listen through the transition and save the result if the overlap sounds right.

On a computer

Use the full-width working panel to compare the source, settings and result. Keep the original file so you can try another setting without replacing it.

On a phone

Choose the source from Files or your device file manager. Scroll down to the settings and result; keep this tab open until the operation finishes.

In Safari on iPhone, open the sharing menu and choose Save to Files if the result opens in a new tab. In Android Chrome, check Downloads. Keep this tab open until processing finishes.

For a better result

Use a shorter overlap for speech and compare levels so that neither recording disappears during the transition.

Questions and troubleshooting

Why is the result shorter than the sum of the inputs?

The crossfade overlaps parts of the recordings instead of placing every second end to end.

Why is the transition too loud or too quiet?

The source levels and the selected overlap affect the mix. Try another duration and check the available level controls.

If you see a message that the service is overloaded, wait and try again later. A failed attempt does not mean that your source file has changed.
